The Engadine & St. Moritz Region

St Moritz LakeThe Engadin is the part of Switzerland which speaks in four languages. The main attraction of the Engadine is the famed jet-setter resort of Sankt Moritz with its 5 star hotels, ice bob sleds, the Cresta Run, cricket and polo. Romansch is the official main language, while German is spoken in St. Moritz, and Italian in the neighboring valleys across the bernina Pass, while French is common at the Club Med. Of course you‘ll find lots of English spoken as well. The resort of St. Moritz in Engadine is situated on the southern side of the Swiss Alps, at 1,800 meters above sea level, called the "Roof of Europe". The Bernina Pass is the highest roadway through the Alps to Verona and Milan, and the viaducts of the Rhaetian Railway are designated with Unesco World Heritage status. It is here where both the Glacier Express and the Bernina Express trains gain their reputations.

Sometimes called the "Festival Hall of Europe“, with its Snow & Symphony Music Festival, the Gourmet Festival and Opera Festival, Richard Wagner, Herbert von Karajan, Arturo Toscanini, Richard Strauss, Herbert von Karajan have all contributed to the mythic arts performance stature of St Moritz. But you don’t have to be rich to enjoy the Engadine. In summer, enjoy mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, golfing, tennis, sailing, and Switzerland's only National Park easily reachable within minutes. In Winter take the train to the aerial cable to Diavolezza or Bernina peaks or 350 kilometers of skiing areas in the Upper Engadine.
