What's On For Spring-Summer 2013 Young Stage - May 25 – 28, 2013
The "Das Zelt" events
culminate in Young Stage - Switzerland's only international circus festival.
30 artists
from 10 countries compete
against each other during various performances in front of the audience
and a professional judging panel. The festival welcomes a new judge
to the panel, Artistic Gymnastics European Champion, Ariella Kaeslin.
For
the fifth time, Basel is once again the place where the circus and
show scene come together, offering young artists the chance to be discovered.
Wildwuchs - May 24 - June 2, 2013
The international "Wildwuchs" cultural festival at venues
such as Kaserne Basel and the Theater Roxy Birsfelden presents theatre,
music, dance, painting, photography, film and literature on the theme
of "We are a nuisance!". Wildwuchs is devoted to issues and
people who experience various forms of social exclusion. This festival
aims to grow organically throughout the city, with projects in the city
itself and the suburbs.
Max Ernst at Fondation Beyeler - May 26 – September 8,
2013
Max Ernst (1891 – 1976) is one of the most versatile artists of
the modern era. After starting out as a Dadaist in Cologne, he soon became
one of the
pioneers of Surrealism in Paris. This major retrospective at the Fondation
Beyeler features over 170 paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures and books
by Max Ernst. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the assorted works
of this seminal artist in all their diversity. Summerblues - June 28, 2013
The 5th "Glaibasler Bluesfescht" has finally established itself as
a permanent fixture in Basel's event calendar. This festival takes place on
several stages spread around numerous alleys and side streets. For one summer's
evening, Blues bands transform Kleinbasel into a unique open-air Blues club.
Regional, national and international Blues artists create a unique atmosphere.
Admission to all venues and concerts is free. Basel Zoo Night - June 29, 2013
Once a year, Basel Zoo invites guests to enjoy a late-night visit. From 5 pm
to midnight, visitors have the opportunity to view the animals by night.
What do they get up to when people leave the zoo at night? At observation
and information points, zoo keepers share their exciting background knowledge
of the animals' behaviour and the day-to-day life of the Zoo. Reduced admission
