charm in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Stroll through the Old Town, past
the adorned houses and the festively-decorated
shop windows, the city. In the heart of the city center, on the Barfüsserplatz
and Münsterplatz, you will find the idyllic Christmas Market. 30th Basel City Run

If strolling is too slow, the 30th edition of the Basel City Run takes place
on 24 November 2012. The runners take laps through the festively-lit city center,
in the festooned Christmas atmosphere. The first categories start off at 5
pm from Münsterplatz, over the Mittlere Brücke, through Kleinbasel´s
alleyways, over the Wettsteinbrücke and finally along the Freie Strasse. Basel Zoo opens the "Geigy-Anlage"
After two years of construction work, Basel Zoo has officially opened
the completed "Geigy-Anlage" to the general public for
the first time. The new experience-oriented facility is home to
gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans. The enlarged indoor areas
were already
fully operational last year and now the big apes can also enjoy

For the first time in a long while in the 20 years since the death
of artist Jean Tinguely, his works will again fill the entire
exhibition area of the museum. The exhibition provides a comprehensive
overview of the artist, the collection and its documentation, giving visitors
the opportunity of a fresh view of Tinguely's oeuvre. Sunday Brunch in Basel

Hungry for music? After her much-praised debut album, "Monday's
Ghost", which shot to the top of the Swiss music charts in 2009,
Sophie Hunger appears for two evenings in the Kaserne Basel to present
her new album, "The Danger of Light". The homegrown artist,
born in Bern grew up in Switzerland, Germany and England, received
the Swiss Award in 2011.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year - Naturhistorisches
Museum Basel
November 30, 2012 - March 31, 2013
Breath-taking landscapes, captivating animal photographs and fantastic
natural scenes. Every year, 40,000 photographs are entered into the "Wildlife
Photographer of the Year" competition. The Naturhistorisches Museum
Basel exhibits 100 prizewinning images, exclusively in Switzerland.
Interested photographers are invited to submit their best photographs
and participate in the museum´s "Bilderrausch" competition. New Year's Eve in Basel

For the 13th time, visitors and the citizens of Basel will come together
to enjoy an impressive firework display over the waters of the Rhine.
The fiery spectacle traditionally begins at half past midnight. A reflective
mood on the Münsterplatz is the setting for the celebrations and
